oma-cast brings a Raycast-style launcher to Omarchy
typecraft’s new omarchy-shell plugin puts your apps, every Omarchy menu action and a web search in one ranked list on Alt+Space, and learns what you actually use.

Raycast users moving to Linux have a new reason to smile. typecraft has released oma-cast, which its README calls “a Raycast-style launcher for Omarchy.” The repository went up on October 19, 2026, and the same evening typecraft showed it off on X: “I used Reverse Engineer Anything to re-create raycast on @omarchy. And I was blown away! In just a couple hours I have a fully-functioning raycast-like launcher!” The post had 2,188 likes on October 21, and DHH reposted it.
The pitch is one search box for everything. According to the README, oma-cast lists your apps, “all ~400 Omarchy menu actions (with breadcrumbs and live ✓ state)”, and web-search fallbacks in a single ranked list. When nothing matches, the query can go to Google or DuckDuckGo.
The ranking is where the Raycast DNA shows. Results are ranked with “a port of Raycast’s root-search algorithm, plus frecency and learned search terms,” so the things you open most float to the top. The README’s example: type ff, pick Firefox, and ff keeps meaning Firefox. On top of that you can give anything an alias, pin favorites and hide the commands you never touch.
It is keyboard-first all the way down, with a Ctrl+K action panel for any result, Ctrl+1 to 9 quick picks, search history on the up arrow, section jumping and emacs-style navigation. oma-cast opens on Alt+Space, so Super+Space stays the Omarchy menu. If you’d rather have oma-cast there, the swap sits commented out in ~/.config/hypr/oma-cast.lua.
It also tries hard to feel built in. oma-cast runs inside omarchy-shell as a plugin, “with no Electron, no Node and no extra daemons,” and the repository is mostly JavaScript and QML. There is no theme config: it binds to Omarchy’s own colors and changes the moment you run omarchy theme set. typecraft says it opens in about 40 ms.
It requires Omarchy 4 (Hyprland 0.56+, omarchy-shell) and socat, which Omarchy already ships. After cloning the repo, bin/oma-cast install links the plugin and the CLI, oma-cast setup hyprland binds Alt+Space, and oma-cast doctor checks that everything is wired up. oma-cast uninstall removes it.
The README is upfront that “oma-cast is early.” Search, ranking and the Omarchy integration are done; the roadmap lists a settings window, script commands, clipboard history, snippets, quicklinks, a calculator, window management, importing your .rayconfig from macOS, and running Raycast extensions built from the open-source raycast/extensions repo. Expect rough edges too: one user replied on October 21 that Alt+Space showed nothing after installing. The repository also doesn’t list a license yet.
The project describes itself as “an independent, clean-room project” that “isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Raycast,” contains no Raycast code or assets, never contacts Raycast’s servers, and has no telemetry or AI features. Two days in, it has around 290 stars on GitHub, and Tom Ballard put it simply on October 20: “One of the first plugins you should install.”
