Omarchy 4.0.4 makes linux-omarchy the default boot option
Omarchy 4.0.4 landed on September 15, 2026 with the bespoke linux-omarchy kernel as the default boot option. Existing machines pick it up through Update > Omarchy; new installs use the matching ISO.
On September 15, 2026, Omarchy released v4.0.4 and made linux-omarchy the default boot option.
linux-omarchy is Omarchy’s bespoke kernel: the package this release installs and puts first in the boot order.
One concrete target in the notes is smoother gaming on supported AMD HDMI displays, alongside broader gaming compatibility.
According to the release notes, the kernel is also tuned for a responsive desktop under heavy load or memory pressure, faster common Btrfs operations, and refined power management—claims without published benchmarks.
Fixes cover missing audio, unresponsive touchpads, display freezes, and slow startup or resume on affected machines, plus webcam issues on XPS systems in the 7.2.x kernel.
Upgrade with Update > Omarchy, or install from the Omarchy 4.0.4 ISO (SHA256 ddeded2758c48318d201dfdac905ecb28f570441883f0c052ea3cd5d05acf92d).
The v4.0.3…v4.0.4 changelog migrates to linux-omarchy except on T2 Macs, which keep their specialized kernel.
