Omarchy 4.0.5 is out. Ryan Hughes published it on October 18, 2026, describing it as a bunch of fixes and refinements “to tighten things up as we prep for the next feature release coming soon.” Existing machines can upgrade with Update > Omarchy, and new installs can grab the Omarchy 4.0.5 ISO (SHA256 73fd4334f1f67b19cd8a5589f9363173fc3aec07c0a59f198833eaddb66877a1).

The headline change is under the hood: the default kernel moves to Linux 7.2.8 with the BORE scheduler. According to the omarchy-pkgs pull request behind it, linux-omarchy is now the BORE kernel itself rather than a meta package pointing to linux-omarchy-bore, so stable users go straight from linux-omarchy 7.2.5 to 7.2.8 with BORE.

Arch packages also jump to the October snapshot, which brings Qt 6.12, and Omarchy’s own package repository now takes priority over Arch’s. Two fixes handle the fallout: one for the shell’s colors and panels breaking under Qt 6.12, and one from @outfoxxed for third-party shell plugins that broke the same way.

Speed gets attention too. The release notes list faster browser and web app launches, quicker system updates thanks to skipping redundant keyring refreshes, and better bar performance with faster shell restarts. Hermes and OpenClaw agents now update themselves, and clipboard yanks and pastes in Neovim over SSH are more reliable.

The hardware fixes are a long list. Built-in speakers now work on the Dell XPS 13 Panther Lake, KEF LSX II LT USB speakers no longer lock up, and NVIDIA environment variables are tuned for hybrid laptops. T2 Mac installs get back the Broadcom firmware fetcher they were missing, and a black-screen hang during boot on some systems is gone.

Some smaller annoyances are fixed as well. Closing the lid no longer interrupts a shutdown, Steam installs stop picking the wrong graphics drivers, and setting the idle timeout to 0 now disables it instead of locking the screen immediately. Other fixes cover EasyEffects 8 audio routing, Windows VM launches, the Display panel’s monitor toggle and calendar errors in some time zones.

Three security changes round things out: unsafe automatic PATH injection in project directories is removed, root password hashes are now erased during a factory reset, and helper scripts are hardened against malicious command-line flags.

The bigger stuff is still on the way. The Omarchy account said on X on October 18, 2026 that the team is “still hard at work on the next major update with new features, apps, and aesthetics!” The full v4.0.4…v4.0.5 changelog is on GitHub.
