Omarchy lets you choose glassy, transparent or opaque windows
A new Window Transparency setting brings a frosted glass look to every theme, with a bar that can match.

“Glassy, transparent or opaque. Set your windows as your wish and make your bar match if you please. Coming soon.” That’s how the official @omarchy account announced the feature on X on October 13, 2026.
The work landed in pull request #14991, opened by DHH and merged on October 11 into the quattro branch. It adds an Appearance > Window Transparency menu with three choices.
Opaque Windows makes the windows Omarchy usually renders transparent fully solid. Transparent Windows stays the default and keeps today’s look. Glassy Windows applies a frosted glass effect to every theme, and the pull request also adds a Glassy background for the bar.
Getting real glass took more than a Hyprland blur rule. The pull request adjusts the settings of the four supported terminals (Alacritty, foot, Ghostty and kitty) so the background blurs while the text stays crisp, and it also covers btop and GTK apps like Nautilus. Running terminals switch live when you change the mode.
From the command line, omarchy-hyprland-window-transparency takes opaque, transparent or glassy. Turning animations off no longer makes windows opaque, and VM installs start with opaque windows.
It’s merged but not in a stable release yet, so look for it in the next version of Omarchy.
