Omarchy Stories 008: Alexander Zeitler is moving his manufacturing company to Omarchy
Locked out of his own data by a legacy ERP, Alexander Zeitler decided to cut proprietary vendors loose. The new Omarchy Stories episode follows how his 10-person factory now runs on Linux, Omarchy and AI agents.
Omarchy on the factory floor? That’s the story of the eighth episode of Omarchy Stories, the podcast hosted by Basti. “I Couldn’t Access My Own Company’s Data – Alexander Zeitler | Omarchy Stories 008” went up on the show’s YouTube channel on October 21, 2026, runs 50 minutes and 41 seconds, and Basti shared it on X that evening.
The day before, the official account announced the guest this way: “He is transitioning his production company to Omarchy, including in the manufacturing process.” According to the episode description, Zeitler is a software veteran who runs a 10-person manufacturing business on Linux and Omarchy.
The trigger was a very concrete problem. The description says he discovered he couldn’t access his own data in a legacy ERP, used Claude to extract it, and started replacing siloed workflows with a system he actually controls. Sharing the episode on X on October 21, 2026, Zeitler wrote: “That was the spark that led to the decision to cut all proprietary vendors loose from the company.” The episode description closes on an even blunter line from Zeitler: “If I can’t access the data in my own company, I cannot make decisions.”
In the episode, Basti and Zeitler cover:
- why “owning” your data means nothing if you can’t use it;
- FreeCAD, OpenSCAD, Python and Rails in real manufacturing workflows;
- building products from parameters, not proprietary CAD;
- generating decision records, risk assessments and docs from reusable blocks;
- GitHub issues as event streams, with agents that reason before they code;
- a second AI review layer for every code change;
- why event sourcing matters more in an AI-assisted world.
Omarchy itself gets its own chapter at 12:18, “Why Omarchy fits a changing engineering workflow”.
And the migration is not just a plan. “After just over a year, we’ve practically achieved our goal. There’s still some work to be done (for the agents), but the concept is working,” Zeitler added, quoting his own post from September 17, 2025: “It’s our companies. It’s our decisions.”
The setup is getting noticed outside the Omarchy crowd too. Earlier on October 21, Zeitler said on X that he had presented “our vision and live setup of Linux on desktop & server using Omarchy plus AI in manufacturing” to the head of his company’s IT consulting partner, whose verdict was: “This should become the blueprint for German SMEs.”
