Jade Horse replaces Osaka Jade as a bundled theme in the next Omarchy
DHH’s Year of the Horse theme went from a standalone repo to the next Omarchy release in less than a day. Osaka Jade users keep their theme.

Omarchy’s jade green slot has a new occupant. DHH merged pull request #16594 on October 25, 2026, replacing the bundled Osaka Jade theme with Jade Horse, which the PR describes as “a jade green Year of the Horse theme.” The change landed on the quattro branch, so it is coming in the next version.
The theme started life the day before. On October 24, 2026, DHH posted on X: “A beautiful jade theme to celebrate the year of the horse,” linking to a standalone repo. According to its README, it is “a cool jade edition of the Chinese Year of the Horse theme: deep pine surfaces, celadon accents, pale green-white text, and sage folder icons.” You don’t have to wait for the release to try it: omarchy theme install https://github.com/dhh/omarchy-jade-horse-theme works today.
Jade Horse ships with three wallpapers, Mountain Horses, Ink Horse and Carved Jade Horse, at 6688×3764. The README says they were generated with OpenAI image generation and upscaled 4× from 1672×941, and the generation prompts are included in the repo. Cycle through them with omarchy theme bg next.
The palette is built around a #142620 background and a #8bcbb1 jade accent. The PR also recolors the Omarchy wordmark wallpaper to those two colors and repaints the lock screen images from Osaka Jade’s in the new palette.
Under the hood, Jade Horse is a palette-only theme, like Ethereal and Lupine. That means there are no hand-tuned editor files: Neovim and VS Code use colors generated from the theme’s colors.toml. Osaka Jade’s backgrounds, intro video, neovim.lua and vscode.json are removed from the repo along with it.
If Osaka Jade is your daily theme, relax. The PR is explicit: “Anyone currently on Osaka Jade keeps their staged copy; nothing switches their theme.” The manual’s theme galleries swap Osaka Jade for Jade Horse in every language.
Prefer red and gold? DHH also published Year of the Horse, with deep crimson surfaces and pale yellow accents, installable the same way with omarchy theme install.
The community didn’t wait long. On October 25, 2026, OmarchyTV creator Marco Porro posted that the jade-horse and year-of-the-horse themes “look absolutely magnificent on a big TV screen with OmarchyTV.” DHH quoted it: “New theme announced, five minutes later it’s running on the TV. Love the pace of diffusion in this community!”
