Ely Office, an open-source office suite built with Rust and GPUI by developer Zachary Zhang, is now available on Linux and Windows. In a post on October 11, 2026 announcing version 0.1.3, he added an Omarchy-only twist: “it will sync your Omarchy theme color on ALL apps!” DHH reposted it.
According to the author’s original announcement, the suite contains word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, PDF, Markdown and a Git client. Its office engine uses LibreOffice’s LOK, its PDF engine comes from MuPDF and its Markdown renderer from MarkText. He describes it as fully open source, fully local, and free of ads.
Zhang is upfront about its maturity. He calls it a “really early version” and says there must be many problems. In the first announcement he warned users not to use it in production yet and to always back up files before opening them.
Version 0.1.4 followed on October 13. According to the update log, its Markdown app, ElyMark, was rebuilt without a web engine, with visual, source and preview modes, math formulas, Mermaid diagrams and export to HTML, PDF or plain text.
On Linux, 0.1.4 brings real Wayland and X11 windows, Ctrl+wheel zoom, and AppImage, deb, rpm and Arch packages. Idle apps also no longer keep re-reading files in the background.
Downloads are listed on the Ely Office website, and the author asks for bug reports on his personal Gitea.
