Floating workspaces get a dock, Alt+Tab and minimize, so newcomers to tiling can work the old-fashioned way until tiling clicks.

Omarchy is getting an option to run as a traditional desktop with a dock. The official @omarchy account announced it on X on October 13, 2026, saying it can be set per workspace or globally, and calling it “a great set of training wheels for anyone new to tiling window managers who need a safe space until it clicks.”

According to the announcement, the mode comes with Alt+Tab, window minimization, and a dock that can sit on the left, right, top or bottom of the screen.

The work landed in pull request #15263, “Add a dock to floating workspaces”, opened by DHH and merged on October 13 into the quattro branch. The dock only appears on floating workspaces and hides as soon as you switch to a tiled or scrolling one.

The dock shows pinned apps first, then running ones. You can drag icons to reorder them, right-click an app to pin it or quit it, and open a grid of every installed app that you can filter by typing. A maximized window puts the dock in auto-hide, and fullscreen hides it. Settings live under Appearance > Dock, and a new omarchy dock command handles position, auto-hide and pins.

Floating workspaces also get the minimize button back in titlebars, plus Super + M to minimize the focused window. Minimized windows come back from the dock. The default pins listed in the pull request are Files, Chromium, Foot, Omacalc, Omawrite, X and YouTube.

The change is merged but not part of a stable release yet, so expect it in the next version of Omarchy.
