The next Omarchy drops the notification panel and snooze, and the bell goes back to Do Not Disturb

DHH pulled a big chunk of the rebuilt notification engine out of Omarchy 4.5 after RC1: no more panel, no more snooze, no more settings, just sensible defaults baked in.

Omarchy 4.5’s new notifications are getting a lot simpler before the final release. On October 23, 2026, DHH merged two pull requests into the quattro branch that take the notification panel, snooze and every notification setting back out, and turn the bar’s bell into a plain Do Not Disturb toggle again. The changes are coming in the next version.

Some context: the notification engine was replaced with Omapager in #15932 by Ryan Hughes, merged on October 20, 2026. That brought per-source stacks, snoozes, Do Not Disturb, held and recent notifications, history, actions, verification codes and links. The 4.5 RC1 release notes listed it among the headline features: “stacked by sender, snooze, Do Not Disturb, history, and actions, codes, and links right on the card.” That’s the version RC1 testers got.

The first trim, #16429, removes snooze. Cards lose their zzz button and snooze row, and right-clicking a card dismisses it again, like middle-click and the ✕. Per-source and global snooze are gone, along with the PipeWire screen-share detection and the offer it made while you were sharing, and the “Suggest snooze during screen sharing” preference.

The second, #16430, goes further. According to DHH’s description, it “removes the notification panel and every notification setting, leaving their current defaults hardcoded.” The panel with its recent, held back and history views is deleted, and the bar bell “is back to a plain Do Not Disturb toggle, as it was before Omapager.”

With the settings gone, notifications now always:

  • land on the focused display and stay there until the deck empties
  • step aside for fullscreen windows
  • keep a day of history, capped at 100
  • let verification codes through Do Not Disturb

Nothing silenced is lost, though. Notifications that arrive during Do Not Disturb are still recorded in history, so Super + Shift + Alt + , puts them back on screen. The PR also removes 31 English strings, with translations pruned through the sync workflow, and updates the docs and the manual.

These two follow an earlier round of trims in #16277, merged on October 22, 2026, which dropped phone-number and meeting-link detection (Copy number, Join). Links still offer Open link, and codes still offer Copy code.

On testing, DHH notes that the change was verified in the running shell and that the notification, i18n and contract test scripts pass, but that “the acceptance suite was not run (it needs the VM).” For now, the RC1 ISO still ships the full panel and snooze.
