Tailscale Host Monitor puts your servers’ health in the Omarchy bar
A new third-party plugin by nixfred lists the machines on your Tailscale network in the Omarchy bar and pulls live Linux metrics from them over a single read-only SSH call, with nothing installed on the servers.
A new third-party plugin by nixfred, Tailscale Host Monitor, turns the Omarchy bar into a quick status check for the machines you run: VPSes, a homelab box, a small Docker or Podman setup. Its README sums it up as “your whole tailnet, one dot in the bar. Green means go.”
There is no hosts file to maintain. The plugin reads tailscale status --json from the local Tailscale daemon, and you click to choose which nodes appear in the dashboard. Linux nodes get detailed metrics; Macs, Windows, iOS and Android devices only show what Tailscale itself knows, such as presence, address, device type, tags and last seen.
For Linux hosts, each refresh is one read-only SSH round trip. The remote side reads /proc, free and df, and lists Docker, Podman and KVM/libvirt guests when they exist. The author stresses that nothing is installed, written or left running on the servers, so removing the plugin leaves nothing to clean up remotely.
The panel shows CPU load, memory, per-disk usage, network rate, uptime and container health, with green, yellow and red thresholds. Load is judged on the 5-minute average, because the SSH connection itself can briefly spike a small VM’s one-minute load. Desktop notifications fire on threshold breaches, failed containers, unreachable hosts and recoveries, and warnings can be muted per item or per host without hiding the real numbers.
Other touches include a privacy mode that masks hostnames and addresses for screenshots or screen sharing, keyboard shortcuts to refresh or open an SSH terminal or btop on the selected host, and status colours taken from the active Omarchy theme when they are readable enough.
Requirements are Omarchy Shell with third-party plugin support, Bun 1.2 or newer on the desktop, and key-based passwordless SSH to each server. Container metrics need Docker or Podman access for the remote account. Installation is one command: omarchy plugin add https://github.com/nixfred/omarchy-server-status --enable --yes.
The plugin is MIT-licensed, and its manifest lists version 0.10.1 at the time of writing. It is a community project, not affiliated with Omarchy or with Tailscale Inc.
