Touch ID now works in the Omarchy kernel on Apple Silicon, with an official release “coming soon”
Marcelo Alcantara of the Omarchy Mac effort says fingerprint unlock now works in Omarchy’s Linux kernel for Apple Silicon. He credits the driver work of Dj and Chris Kearney’s team, and says the official release is close.

Fingerprint unlock is coming to Omarchy on the Mac. In a post on X overnight between October 9 and 10, 2026, Marcelo Alcantara wrote: “Our Omarchy linux kernel now supports touch id on Apple Silicon.” Alcantara describes himself on his profile as building Omarchy MX Mac.
He thanked two people for the work: Dj (@buildwithdjdev), a developer who says he makes drivers for Aurora Silicon, and Chris Kearney (@SiliconForested). He added: “Our official release is coming soon.” So this isn’t something you can install from an official Omarchy build yet.
Alcantara’s post quoted one from Dj, who explains where the feature comes from. He got a driver for the Secure Enclave working some time ago. The Secure Enclave is the chip in Apple Silicon Macs that keeps fingerprint data. Kearney’s team then took it over and made it “reliable and work across more machines.” Dj also thanked the early testers who tried it and submitted pull requests.
Touch ID is not the only thing on the way, according to Dj. He says the same work brings more complete Thunderbolt support, external displays you can plug in while the Mac is running, and support for all sorts of accessories. It builds on the basic USB4 and Thunderbolt support from Asahi Linux, the project that first brought Linux to Apple Silicon.
He also says “all new Macs are getting covered as we speak” and that long-standing issues such as power management are being worked on. He calls it “JUST the beginning.”
This follows the Omarchy M Team’s update of October 7, which already listed Touch ID working on more M1 and M2 Macs, with fixes for reset and enrolment, in the Aurora kernel that Omarchy Mac runs on. Now it is set to be part of the official release. No date has been given for that release yet.
