Salah Reminder puts the next prayer and the adhan in the Omarchy bar

An MIT plugin computes prayer times on the machine, shows a countdown in the bar, and plays the adhan through mpv. The canonical repo is omarchy-salah-reminder; the older sallah spelling redirects there.

Salah Reminder is a community plugin that puts the next prayer and a live countdown in the Omarchy bar. A click opens the day: a progress ring through the current window, every prayer with its Arabic name, the Hijri date, and three derived times the author says most timetables leave out, Duha, Islamic midnight, and the last third of the night. The canonical repository is sifenfisaha/omarchy-salah-reminder. The spelling with a double l redirects to that same repo.

Times are computed locally from the solar position, using the PrayTimes model. Sixteen methods are selectable in the panel, including Muslim World League, Egyptian General Authority, Umm al-Qura, Karachi, ISNA, the Moonsighting Committee, Diyanet, Singapore, UOIF, Tehran, and Jafari. Asr can follow the standard shadow ratio or the Hanafi one. The README says a check against api.aladhan.com, across five cities, three seasons, seven methods, and both madhabs, was exact for Addis Ababa in 42 of 42 cases, and that remaining differences elsewhere were a single minute on a value sitting near a minute boundary. Fine tuning can nudge any prayer by up to an hour, and that offset is what the adhan uses. Above roughly 48 degrees, four high-latitude rules are offered, with angle-based as the default.

Location comes from a city picked in the panel, then from Omarchy’s weather location if one is already set, then from an IP lookup only if neither exists. With a location set, Hijri sync off, and the bundled voice chosen, the README says the plugin never touches the network. The default voice is the exception: a live recording of the adhan from the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, fetched once from Wikimedia Commons at 2.8 MB. Until it arrives, a 42-second CC0 recording that ships with the plugin plays instead. Other voices, including a Masjid al-Haram recording, are fetched the same way the first time they are chosen. A prayer that passed while the machine was suspended is skipped rather than fired on resume. One shell-wide service means a multi-monitor desk gets one adhan, not one per screen. Playback uses mpv, which already ships with Omarchy, as do curl and omarchy-notification-send.

Install is omarchy plugin add https://github.com/sifenfisaha/omarchy-salah-reminder.git –enable, then a bar section when prompted, or omarchy bar move salah.reminder –section center. Updates need omarchy plugin update salah.reminder and a shell restart, because hot reload keeps the old code cached. Settings live in ~/.config/omarchy/salah/config.json. Removal is omarchy plugin remove salah.reminder; settings are left behind on purpose. The plugin is MIT except the bundled recording, which is covered in NOTICE.md.
