Omarchy on Apple Silicon: M1/M2 Install in About Five Minutes Hits Alpha
DHH just amplified a live demo: Omarchy on M1 and M2 in about five minutes, aimed at a seamless Apple Silicon install. Marcelo Alcantara says the full Mac Mx path is in alpha — no USB stick, dual-boot macOS by default, you pick the SSD split.
David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH) — creator of Omarchy, co-owner and CTO of 37signals, and the force behind Ruby on Rails — just put official weight behind the Apple Silicon install path. On September 7 he quote-posted a demo with this line: Omarchy on M1 and M2 (and soon more!) in about five minutes, still more to polish, but an excellent start toward a fully seamless installation process for all of Apple Silicon. The demo he amplified is from Marcelo Alcantara (@maralcbr / GitHub https://github.com/maralcbr), who posted the same day that Omarchy will very soon slide into your Mac Mx. His concrete claims for the full Apple Silicon install experience now in Alpha testing:
- No pen drive
- A minimum number of steps
- Dual-boot macOS by default, with the user choosing how to divide the SSD

Why this matters: Omarchy’s public ISO story on x86_64 is still the Quattro line — latest tagged upstream release remains v4.0.2 — while Mac users have been living in a different install reality (Asahi / ARM packaging, community Mac ports). DHH framing M1/M2 “in about five minutes” and a seamless path for all of Apple Silicon is the first clear official signal this week that the Mac onboarding gap is closing into something product-shaped, not just “flash a stick and hope.” Alpha, not GA — both posts say polish remains — but dual-boot-by-default plus no USB is the kind of friction kill that turns curiosity installs into daily drivers.
Who’s who: DHH sets Omarchy’s direction and is amplifying the demo as Omarchy’s Apple Silicon install story. Marcelo Alcantara is the person showing the alpha Mac Mx flow on X; he also appears among contributors on Apple Silicon Omarchy Mac work (omarchy-mac, omarchy-mx-mac). This post is not a recycle of the earlier community Omarchy Mac v4.0.2-2 tag notes (decoder / backlight / Wi-Fi resume) — the new fact is the alpha seamless dual-boot installer plus DHH’s M1/M2 five-minute endorsement.
What is not claimed here: no new upstream omacom/basecamp ISO tag for Apple Silicon, no GA ship date, no “soon more” chip list beyond DHH’s teaser. When that lands on omarchy.org/news or a tagged release, that’s the follow-up.
