David Heinemeier Hansson says the next Omarchy version will be Quattro RS 4.5, with a brand-new bespoke and optimized kernel build — and so much in the pipeline that talking about 4.1 no longer makes sense.

David Heinemeier Hansson just put a version number on the next leap. On 8 September 2026 he posted: the next version of Omarchy is going to be Quattro RS 4.5. There is so much in the pipeline that it does not make sense to talk about 4.1. And with a brand-new bespoke and optimized kernel build, it is time to go RS. Source: DHH on X.

That is a clean step past the current stable line. Upstream is still Omarchy 4.0.2 (Quattro). No 4.5 ISO or GitHub release tag has shipped yet — this is the naming and direction call from the creator, not a download day.

The RS framing sits on work the Omacom Foundation already staffed. First full-time hire Krzysztof Wilczyński joined to lead the Omarchy Kernel (performance, compatibility, security) and Omarchy Core. Earlier this month DHH also said the next big Omarchy update would carry a bespoke Linux kernel, with reboots when kernel updates land — 5 September teaser. Today’s post locks the version brand: Quattro RS 4.5.

DHH is creator of Omarchy, co-owner and CTO of 37signals, creator of Ruby on Rails, and president of the Omacom Foundation. Omarchy is the Arch-based, agent-first desktop he ships for the malleable computer. Current installs stay on 4.0.2 until RS ships; watch omarchy.org/news and GitHub releases for the tag.
