Next Omarchy Ships Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams as Frameless Web Apps
DHH says the next Omarchy will install Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams as frameless web apps in one shot. Open PR #10367 wires Install > Service > Microsoft to the official Microsoft sign-in URLs.
David Heinemeier Hansson — creator of Omarchy, co-owner and CTO of 37signals, and the force behind Ruby on Rails — just put Microsoft’s productivity stack on the Omarchy install menu.
On September 6 he posted: “Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams as frameless web apps in the next Omarchy. See @satyanadella, I kid, but I also love. Let’s upgrade these to full native ✌️” (post). The joke lands at Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella; the shipping path is already in code.
Open pull request #10367 on omacom/omarchy (author @dhh, reviewer @ryanrhughes) adds Install > Service > Microsoft. One install creates three launchers via omarchy-webapp-install:
- Microsoft Outlook →
outlook.office.com - Microsoft Office →
office.com/login - Microsoft Teams →
teams.microsoft.com
All three open straight to Microsoft sign-in. Icons come from the same Homarr dashboard-icons CDN path Omarchy already uses for Xbox Cloud Gaming and Tailscale web apps. Launchers get a Microsoft prefix so they sit together in the app launcher. A matching Remove > Services entry tears down whichever of the three exist. The install row shows as already installed once all three launchers are present; remove appears as soon as any one is.
This is classic Omarchy product taste: do not wait for a perfect native client when a first-class frameless web app gets you working today, and keep the door open for “full native” later. Ryan R. Hughes (Omarchy core / release work) is on the review. The PR is still open as of this watch — not a tagged release, not on omarchy.org/news, and GitHub’s latest tag remains v4.0.2. When it lands in a build, the path for users is the Omarchy menu: Install > Service > Microsoft.
For anyone living in Exchange, Word/Excel/PowerPoint in the browser, and Teams standups, that is a one-menu ticket onto an Arch + Hyprland + Quickshell desktop without hunting three separate PWA recipes.
